ABOUT
Dr Vermaak graduated as a medical doctor from the University of Stellenbosch in 1990 and then completed a 2-year Internship and House Officer rotation in various disciplines including orthopaedics, medicine, surgery, paediatrics and gynaecology at Livingstone hospital in Port Elizabeth and 2 Military hospital in Wynberg.
He moved to Canada in 1993 and obtained the Canadian Medical Qualification (LMCC) and practiced General Medicine in rural Canada. He worked in the Intensive Care Unit in Regina, Canada obtaining valuable experience in surgical technique and ICU management before moving to the United Kingdom where he started his ENT training at Frimley Park hospital in Surrey. His ENT training was completed at the university of Stellenbosch in 2000 with a Master of Medicine degree in Otorhinolaryngology MMed(L.et.O). During his training, he received the prize for the best Registrar research project in South Africa two years consecutively.
He entered private practice at Durbanville Mediclinic in 2000 and has maintained a strong academic link to the University of Stellenbosch.
He is a member of the South African Society of Otorhinolaryngology, the Allergy Society of South Africa (ALLSA) and also a director at the Durbanville Sleep Laboratory. He is the chairman of the Boland ENT Academic Journal Club.
